Administration overview
Follow these 4 basic stages. For complete preparation instructions, refer to the Quick Reference Guide or the Instructions for Use within the full Prescribing Information that can be found in each WELTRUZA carton.
Stage 1: Warm
WELTRUZA arrives refrigerated. Before use, allow it to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Then, use the warming pack according to the instructions below.
If it’s been stored at room temperature for at least 12 hours, the steps below may be skipped.
- Activate the warming pack by bending the metal disc until the fluid turns cloudy and starts to warm
- Wrap the syringe in the warming pack and secure it with the fastening strips
- Leave for at least 15 minutes until the diluent becomes liquid
Stage 2: Reconstitute
- Tap the vial cap on a solid surface to loosen the powder. Make sure the powder is loosened
- Remove the cap from the vial and wipe the septum with an alcohol wipe
- Firmly push down the vial adapter onto the vial until it’s securely in place
- Twist and pull off the prefilled syringe cap
- Push and twist the prefilled syringe onto the vial adapter
- Eject all diluent into the vial
- Tap the vial on a soft surface for approximately 2 minutes or until the powder dissolves
- Shake the vial for approximately 30 seconds. Make sure it is opaque and yellow and that no dry powder remains
- Use the dose as soon as possible after reconstitution or, if needed, store in the refrigerator up to 24 hours. Dispose after 24 hours
Stage 3: Withdraw
- Attach the administration syringe by pushing and twisting it onto the vial adapter
- Withdraw the appropriate dosage immediately before injection
- Remove air bubbles by moving the plunger back and forth. Some product may remain in the vial
Stage 4: Injection
- Attach the administration needle
- Choose an injection site, in the abdomen only. Avoid the belly button area and damaged skin
- Administer the injection subcutaneously
- Wait 2 to 3 seconds before removing the needle
- Activate the safety shield and dispose of properly
