Following subcutaneous injection, olanzapine is released from the depot in a sustained, biphasic pattern—an initial absorption phase followed by a prolonged release phase. Olanzapine plasma concentrations rise within the first 24 hours after the first injection and then remain sustained over the monthly dosing interval, maintaining clinically relevant plasma levels consistent with a long apparent half-life.1
